Original Pentair SuperFlo and Superflo VS SuperMax Pump Seal Kit 356197 Installation:
First you should remove the old shaft seal
Removing the old shaft seal:
- Refer to the pump Installation and User’s Guide and complete all prerequisite disassembly instructions.
- Hold the motor shaft in place at the rear of the motor and unscrew the impeller counter-clockwise. Remove it from the motor shaft.
- Using a pair of pliers, remove the old Spring Seal from the impeller shaft.
Note: When removing the Spring Seal the inner sleeve of the seal may stick to the shaft. Ensure it is removed before installing the new Spring Seal. - Using a 9/16-inch wrench, remove the four bolts securing the seal plate to the motor. Set the motor aside.
- Place the Seal Plate face down on a flat surface and tap out the old Ceramic Seal with a flat-blade screwdriver (Figure A).
Then new shaft seal should be installed.
Installing the new shaft seal:
- Flip the seal plate over and thoroughly clean the seal cavity.
- Using the silicone lubricant provided in this kit, lightly lubricate the outside rubber surface of the new Ceramic Seal.
- With the White Face upwards, firmly press the new Ceramic Seal into the seal plate cavity with your thumbs (Figure B).
- Using a clean cloth, thoroughly clean the seal face.
- Ensure the side marked “UP” is on top and install the seal plate onto the motor. Tighten the four bolts to 75-80 in-lbs. (86-92 kg/ cm).
- With the Flat Face towards the impeller, slide the new Spring Seal onto the impeller shaft (Figure C).
- Using a clean cloth, thoroughly clean the seal face.
- Hold the motor shaft in place at the rear of the motor and hand tighten the impeller clockwise onto the motor shaft.
- Refer to the pump Installation and User’s Guide and complete all remaining reassembly instructions.
